“Save Your Body” A self-care workshop for RMTs
Cycle 11 Credits pending (Cycle 10 Credits: 14 PE/A2)
Please note this is not a YAMUNA® certification course, nor is it eligible to be used as a re-certification course for existing YAMUNA® practitioners. This course is designed solely for self-care for massage therapists and does not certify participants to work with clients/patients. You can expect deep, technical work, all of which you will practice on yourself. It is all about you, there is no partner practice in this class. However, if you choose to certify in any of YAMUNA® modalities, this class can serve as your per-requisite.
Save your Body is a two-day custom-designed workshop to meet the self-care needs of RMTs created by Beth Sampson, RMT. Healthcare practitioners can tend to put their own self-care on the back burner, leading to early burnout. In this course we explore the concepts and principles of self-care and how they can be applied in daily life as well as look at common challenges that RMTs face that lead to putting self-care last. You will learn methods to relieve stress and pain in your own body, prevent injuries caused by the challenging ergonomics of massage therapy, and revitalize your energy. We will be spending time reviewing the physiology of breathing and explore how to optimize your breath throughout the day, as well as reviewing common default work ergonomics that can cause problems and seek a perspective shift on how to change this. In this course we also use Yamuna® Body Rolling (YBR®) methods to empower massage therapists with tools and techniques that take “self care” to a new level, with positive impacts on both the longevity of their massage therapy practice and personal overall health. It provides effective relief and prevention of tension headaches, lower and mid back problems, neck and shoulder tension, foot and calf fatigue, and wrist and hand problems stemming from the repetitive stress syndromes that are particular occupational hazards for RMTs.
This workshop will teach RMTs to bring rapid relief to trouble spots and build physical and mental stamina. In addition, these techniques will increase range of motion, improve flexibility, balance, core strength, muscle tone, and speed healing when injuries do occur. Techniques can be used before, during, or after a clinic shift to address immediate issues as well as refresh and recharge between massage therapy treatments. The positive effects from YBR® can help RMTs maintain the high energy levels required to consistently revitalize their own massage therapy practices.
YBR® can be done first thing in the morning to get rid of morning stiffness, before bedtime to get rid of daily stresses, and during the day to recharge and revitalize the body for greater function and injury prevention. We will learn modified routines designed specifically for RMTs that can be done quickly and effectively throughout the day in between patients to release trigger points in the Scalenes, SCM, and Upper Traps, restore upright posture, relieve low-back pain, and rejuvenate tired and aching feet and hands.
